Once you reach Steeltown, you discover that the head of the place, Abigail Markham, is completely beleaguered. Unfortunately, Steeltown's output has all but dried up recently, and the Patriarch wants you to investigate why this is the case. Formerly known as the city of Pueblo, Steeltown is responsible for the creation and delivery of arms and other munitions to the Patriarch in his never-ending quest to protect the state from gangs in the area. Instead of being thrown in as a separate campaign, The Battle of Steeltown places itself into the main campaign around the time your character reaches level nine, but the difficulty scales depending on when you make that trek. Almost a year after that initial release, some campaign DLC is being released, and it all starts with The Battle of Steeltown. From the freeform character creation system to the intuitive battle system to the story, it hit all of the right notes for both fans and newcomers alike, even if it did launch with some odd design issues. In short, Wasteland 3 is the best RPG of the year so far.Last year's release of Wasteland 3 was a welcome treat for CRPG fans. Not to mention, you can always replay the game with different choices to see what the final outcome will be. And if you are the kind who like to finish every side-quest, you might be looking at 60 hours or more of fun. However, the game easily provides at least 40 hours of gameplay. But maybe, it is for you to think about your choices.Īnother issue I have is that while the storyline is engaging, it packs cliches such as cannibals and crazy clowns, which are found in the usual post-apocalyptic literature. One quibble I have with the game is the long loading times, at least on my PC, when entering new areas - up to 30 seconds. There were times when I actually stopped the game and pondered what I should say and do next.įor instance, I mulled over if I should tip off the folks in a town about an impending attack, or join the attack - a choice that will yield much better returns in terms of resources. Expect to also talk to NPCs to get information and new quests, something which I enjoyed as the voiceover actors have done a great job in breathing life into their characters.įurthermore, it is through these dialogues that you are able to move the gripping story forward and affect its final outcome. Remember to upgrade it, as the upgrades might come in handy during battles with random encounters as you traverse the wastelands.Īll of the locations in Colorado are beautifully crafted and unique - you will find yourself taking time to explore each town and city. To move between major cities, you have to travel in a heavy armoured vehicle called Kodiak. Each squad member have a certain number of action points, which are needed for actions such as moving and firing a weapon. Like its predecessor, Wasteland 3 is played via a third-person isometric view with turn-based combat gameplay. There are plenty of armour and weapons to collect, either by looting your downed enemies or buying from shops in all the towns that you will visit in Colorado.
